In Hawaiian culture, the word "popoki" holds a special significance. Legend has it that the term originated from the expression "poor kitty". Over time "poor kitty" gradually transformed into "popoki."

This linguistic evolution is a beautiful reflection of the rich tapestry of cultural exchange and adaptation that characterizes Hawaii's history. It's a testament to the way language can bridge different worlds and bring people together.

So, when I was seeking a name for our sanctuary, I wanted something that not only honored the spirit of our feline friends but also paid homage to the cultural heritage of this beautiful island we call home.

Thus, "Popoki PunaCat Rescue" was born—a name that not only celebrates our love for cats but also embodies the spirit of unity and cultural diversity that defines our community.

Thank you all for being a part of this journey with me. Together, let's continue to create a sanctuary filled with love, compassion, and aloha for all creatures, big and small. 🌴💖🐾
